Email verification

Ensure every email address you collect is genuine and able to receive messages – check and validate email addresses in real-time, or cleanse your database in bulk.

What is email verification?

Email verification is the process of checking if an email address exists and is able to receive email messages

Inaccurate email addresses entering your systems can compound over time. Typos, outdated and role-based emails bloat your databases and CRMs – increasing marketing costs, distorting reporting and creating avoidable friction.

Verify email addresses to:

Reduce failed deliveries and hard bounces

Protect your sender reputation and deliverability

Keep your CRM clean, accurate and actionable

Eliminate CRM spend for uncontactable records

Maintain ongoing data hygiene and compliance

Ensure new signups are contactable

Prevent invalid emails from entering your database

Reduce spam and fake accounts

Prevent downstream headaches and fixes

Verify in bulk

Clean and fix your email database with our easy-to-use bulk verification tool

Upload a CSV of your email address database and we’ll verify that each one is valid and correct, format it consistently and attach its associated metadata.

Real-time verification ensures emails are accurate at collection, but over time emails degrade and your records become inaccurate. Prevent this data decay with regular bulk verification.

Our customers also use bulk email verification to:

Clean and segment lists before a campaign

Cleanse before merging or moving CRMs

Remove invalid, catch-all and uncontactable records

Validate new email lists from events or third parties

How it works

Every email address is validated using four layered checks to ensure it's correctly formatted, linked to a valid domain, registered on a mail server, and compliant with your configured business rules.

You can configure or customise the rules for your own use case.

1
Syntax checks

Verify if the email address is formatted correctly. An email address must have a username followed by the @ symbol and a domain with a valid suffix such as .com, .org or .net.

2
Domain checks

Verify if the domain has a valid MX record pointing to a mail server capable of sending and receiving emails.

3
Server checks

Verify if the email address is registered on the mail server by checking the SMTP connection. This makes sure that the address exists and is accepting incoming emails.

4
Rules checks

Verify if the email address matches your filter settings. For example, you can only allow non-disposable addresses, restrict catch-all and group emails, etc.

Customise what data to accept

As part of Addressfinder’s email verification, we provide additional information on each email’s attributes.

You can configure allow, warn, or block rules for the below attributes, giving you full control over data quality without compromising conversion.

Disposable – temporary or throwaway addresses

Role-based – shared inboxes such as support@ or info@

Public – emails from providers like Gmail or Yahoo

Unverified – emails that don’t pass our verification checks
