Why we use multiple sources
No single dataset covers everything. Official postal files tell you where deliveries go. Government land registries hold the legal address. Census data adds geographic and statistical context. Each source is authoritative for something different.
We draw from the best available datasets for each market, layer them together and apply our own verification logic on top. The result is more complete and more accurate than any single source alone.
You can also choose which datasets your results draw from, giving you the flexibility to match the data to your use case.
Australian address data
Our Australian address data covers more than 18 million addresses, drawn from three official sources.
- The Australia Post PAF - the Postal Address File is owned and maintained by Australia Post. It contains every deliverable address in Australia, along with a Delivery Point Identifier (DPID) and GPS coordinates for the majority of addresses. It's the definitive source for deliverable postal addresses in Australia.
- Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF) - maintained by Geoscape Australia, G-NAF contains GPS coordinates for 100% of its address records. These are Australia's legal and physical addresses, sourced from local and Federal Government entities and unlike the PAF, G-NAF captures all legal and physical addresses in Australia, including properties that don't receive postal delivery. This broadens our coverage beyond the postal network.
- Australian Bureau of Statistics - we use ABS data for census and geo-political metadata. This adds statistical area codes and geographic boundaries to address records, useful for analytics, segmentation and location intelligence.
Addressfinder is an AMAS-accredited address matching software provider.
We refresh the Australian datasets monthly (except January).
New Zealand address data
Our New Zealand address data covers more than 2.8 million addresses, drawn from three official sources.
- NZ Post PAF - the Postal Address File contains all addresses that receive mail delivery in New Zealand, covering urban, rural and PO Box addresses. Owned, maintained and licensed by NZ Post. It's the definitive source for deliverable postal addresses in New Zealand.
- LINZ - Land Information New Zealand publishes the address, road and parcel datasets that form the core of our NZ address database. The LINZ dataset captures all NZ addresses, including properties outside the postal network such as commercial addresses and lots assigned before construction is complete. This gives us coverage that goes well beyond what's deliverable by post. LINZ consolidates data from local councils, Fire and Emergency New Zealand and Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (the New Zealand Geographic Board). We stay current with LINZ dataset changes as they publish them.
- Stats NZ - we use Stats NZ data for census area information, regional and territorial boundaries and other geo-political boundaries. This adds statistical and geographic context to NZ address records.
For our point of interest and places services, we draw on Open Street Maps, a community-maintained dataset. This enables search and retrieval of addresses not captured in official postal or land registries.
We refresh the New Zealand datasets monthly (except January).

Our own database
On top of official sources, we maintain our own address database built over 15 years in the AU and NZ markets. It captures verified addresses, local conventions and edge cases that official sources don't always reflect. We handle the detail so you don't have to.
Metadata varies by dataset
The metadata returned with each verified address depends on the datasets used. Choosing the right combination for your use case means you get the fields that matter.
- Australia Post PAF returns a Delivery Point Identifier (DPID), useful for ecommerce and postal delivery workflows.
- G-NAF returns GPS coordinates and legal address identifiers, useful for geocoding and mapping applications.
- ABS data returns census statistical area codes (SA1, SA2), useful for segmentation and analytics.
- LINZ returns parcel IDs and land registry references, useful for property and land-related use cases.
